Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Copenhagen
“Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day”
and so, on Sunday the 16th of March, people of all ages and nationalities are invited to be Irish for a day. 2025 will celebrate the 20th anniversary of this flagship event for Irish culture in Copenhagen with a festive afternoon of traditional Irish music and dance on Rådhuspladsen and a green parade through the streets of Copenhagen.
What’s on?
Since the bold initiative in 2005 by Dark Green School of Irish Dancing, to put Copenhagen on the global St. Patrick’s Day parade scene, this international event has developed into a true folk festival with many participating groups within Irish sports, language, dance and music.
Meet the clubs Copenhagen GAA and The Viking Gaels, who play the unique Irish sports Gaelic football and hurling. The Irish language community Pop-Up Gaeltacht Cobánhávan is ready by their banner and invites you to chat in Gaelic. You can buy Irish coffee, green beer and real Irish stout from the White Hag as well as hot chocolate and beautifully decorated St. Patrick’s Day cookies.
On stage St. Patrick, Kevin Kiernan- Molloy will present a fantastic show with lively Irish folk music by The Early House and festive Irish step dancing by Dark Green School of Irish Dancing and Copenhagen Irish Set Dancers.
Wear something green and join the parade. You can bring your own green accessories or buy them in the pop-up shop at the event. Children can have a free, special St. Patrick’s Day face painting done by Sminketeatret.
THE PARADE
St. Patrick will lead the green parade through the city centre while the popular Gordon Pipes & Drums provide a true Celtic musical setting. Other participants in the parade are a bodhrán band on Irish hand drums, Dark Green School of Irish Dancing, Irish Wolfhounds, GAA, Pop-UP Gaeltacht, Irish Culture Association Denmark. Before kick-of the Irish Ambassador to Denmark will take the stage with a greeting from Ireland.
