Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Copenhagen 2017

On Friday the 17th of March we celebrate the Irish national day in Copenhagen Town Hall Square. St. Patrick’s Day is made famous all over the world by Irish immigrants, their descendants and friends of Ireland and Irish culture. Copenhagen is no exception with a green parade every year since 2005.

Our slogan is “Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day” so be Irish for a day, experience the special Irish spirit, invite friends and family to a festive afternoon with live music and Irish dance on the Town Hall Square. Wear something green and walk with the green parade through the streets of Copenhagen –
See you there on the 17th March!!

Copenhagen St. Patrick´s Day Parade on the Town Hall Square

We warm up on the Town Hall Square at 15.30 hrs, in the heart of the town, with Irish music, song and dance.

The talented pupils from Dark Green School of Irish Dancing, and the professional dancer s from Green Steps perform with “Riverdance”, or, as the dance is rightly called, Irish step dance. Trad Lads, one of Denmark’s most popular Irish bands will play lively Irish tunes. We are also happy to announce special guest, singer from Ireland, special guest, Paul McDonnell.

While the children can get a free face-painting, parents can fetch a cup of hot chocolate, and enjoy an Irish Coffee, or maybe a Guinness, in our café. If you need something green for the parade, we have a large choice of green hats, rosettes and more for sale in our costume shop in the tent.

Green Parade  starts at 17.00

The parade took off for the first time on the 17th March 2005, and many cultural groups and associations have since contributed to making the green parade festive. Lead by St. Patrick we now have the pipe and drum band, Bodhrán band with the traditional Irish hand drum, and Dark Green School of Irish Dancing with their Irish dancers .  Everyone wearing something green is welcome to walk with us in the green parade through the streets of Copenhagen, and greet the many on-lookers who help make this a festive occasion each year.
The Parade will take off at 17.00 with St. Patrick and finish back at Rådhuspladsen at about 17.40.
